Tidal Wave has gained some notoriety lately after a grower named "Magic Myco" submitted his isolation of Tidal Wave (Tidal Wave 2) to the "Psilocybin Cup", a competition hosted by an organization called Oakland Hyphae that took place in spring 2021 that tested the average tryptamine content of a wide variety of magic mushrooms. "Magic Myco"'s Tidal Wave 2 took home first place after his sample was revealed to have a whopping 3.82% tryptamine content. For context, previous testing had placed the average cubensis mushroom at between 0.6 to 0.8% tryptamine content. Of course, tryptamine content can vary widely between samples and isolations, but overall, Tidal Wave cubensis typically has an above average potency due to the influence of the Penis Envy present in the genetics.

We have also tested this variety using the the PSILO-Q Test kit, the first ever home-use quantitative psilocybin testing kit. Results show that this variety contains approximately 1.8% tryptamine content. By comparison, the average Psilocybe Cubensis mushroom contains between 0.6 and 0.8% tryptamine content.

Cap: 60+ mm in diameter, convex to broadly convex to plane at maturity. Large and golden, typically with a distinct umbo (bump) on top Surface dry with pronounced and persistent remnants of universal veil on cap (spots).

Stem: 125+ mm in length, thick, and yellowish white in colour. Flesh bruising bluish green where injured. Persistent membranous annulus (ring) from partial veil that becomes dusted with purple brown spores at maturity.

Gills: Attachment adnate to adnexed. Grayish coloration in young fruit bodies becoming nearly black in maturity.

Spores: Dark purplish brown, subellipsoid on 4-spored basidia. Moderate sporulation.
