Psilocybe Azurescens (commonly referred to as P. Azurescens or “Flying Saucers”) is a highly potent psilocybin-containing mushroom in the Hymenogastraceae family. It is widely recognized as one of the most potent naturally occurring psilocybin species, with primary active compounds including Psilocybin and Psilocin.

This species is known for its strong alkaloid profile and consistent potency, making it one of the most sought-after species for research and study. Due to its unique environmental requirements, it differs significantly from more commonly cultivated species such as Psilocybe Cubensis.

Spores Lab has worked to source and refine P. Azurescens genetics with a focus on stability and consistency. Unlike Cubensis, this species thrives in outdoor or semi-natural environments and is typically cultivated using wood-based substrates rather than grain-only systems.

Growing Psilocybe Azurescens requires specific conditions, including cooler temperatures and a seasonal fruiting cycle. It is most commonly cultivated outdoors in wood chip beds or similar lignin-rich substrates. Indoor cultivation is significantly more advanced and less predictable compared to other species.

SPECIES INFORMATION

Habitat: Pacific Northwest (USA), coastal regions, temperate climates

Climate: Temperate, prefers cooler temperatures and seasonal variation

Species Origin: First identified in the Pacific Northwest, commonly found in coastal dune grasses and wood debris

Cap: 3 – 10 cm across, caramel to chestnut brown when moist, fading to lighter tan when dry. Convex to broadly convex, often flattening with maturity. Surface smooth, sometimes slightly sticky when hydrated.

Stem: 9 – 20 cm long, 3 to 6 mm thick, fibrous and tough, often with bluish bruising when handled. White to off-white in color.

Gills: Adnate to adnexed, close, starting light gray and maturing to dark purplish-brown to black as spores develop.

Spores: Dark purplish-brown, elliptical, smooth, with a germ pore.
